I am a self-confessed addict: Help! – Part 3

Self confessed addict - word.As I alluded to in part 2, God has said, I will never ever abandon you, hence, “So be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid and do not panic before them. For the LORD your God will personally go ahead of you. He will neither fail you nor abandon you.” Read Deuteronomy 31:6 (NLT). We are not orphans, we have a Father who cares affectionately for us. Hence the Bible says, “I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.” Read John 14:18 (NIV). And He has sent His Son Jesus to you including the Holy Spirit. Hallelujah.

So what kind of help has the Lord given? The Bible says He gave us the gift of self-control. “But the Spirit produces love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, humility, and self-control.” Read Galatians 5:22 (GNT). We know help is available, and, we need to gravitate towards the help giver, and He has made it so simple by giving us the Holy Spirit. And the way to embrace His help is to call out to Him, and He will hear and answer, hence the Bible says, “Call to me, and I will answer you.” Read Jeremiah 33:3 (GNT).

Well, you might be saying, ‘I can’t seem to help myself.’ You are absolutely right that you can’t help yourself, and that is because you were never built to be self-sustaining, hence Jesus said, “For, without Me, you can do nothing.” Read John 15:5 (KJV). And more so the Bible says, “For this very purpose, Jesus came to destroy the works of the enemy.”For this purpose, the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.” Read 1 John 3:8 (KJV). Hey, I am trying to tell us, an obsessive or addictive behaviour is of the devil, and we must not need to be held captive by any form of addiction or obsession, and the power of addiction or obsessive behaviour has been totally destroyed.

Listen to what the Bible says, you are an overcomer in Christ. “For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the worldour faith. Who is it that overcomes the world except the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.” Read 1 John 5:4-5 (ESV). Therefore, I posit over and again, we are free from any form of addictive or obsessive behaviour or inclinations. The Bible says, “So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” Read John 8:36 (NIV), and we know we have been set free. Glory to God.

We write. You read. Be encouraged.
