With whom Yahweh cut a covenant and commanded them, saying, “You shall not fear other gods, nor worship them nor serve them nor sacrifice to them. But Yahweh, who brought you up from the land of Egypt with great power and with an outstretched arm, Him you shall fear, and to Him you shall worship, and to Him you shall sacrifice.

The Samaritans practised the worship of the Lord, with the worship practices of the gods which the Assyrian settlers had brought with them. And because of intermingling, the children of Israel would not listen to the prophets, nor did they obey God’s commandments and decrees. The question is, what instruction did they ignore? The Bible says, “Yes, they worshipped idols, despite the LORD’s specific and repeated warnings.” 2 Kings 17:12 (NLT). Beloved, idol worship is an affront to God. Listen to this admonition, “For you shall not worship any other god, for Yahweh, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God.” Read Exodus 34:14 (LSB). What is an idol? “A form or appearance visible but without substance.”
Beloved, do you have an idol in your life? You might say no and probably do not have images you worship or carved out in a room somewhere. It can be a career, business and family, and the list is endless. My point here is we can be equally as guilty as the children of Israel. Listen here, “This people honours Me with their lips, but their heart is far away from Me.” Read Matthew 15:8 (LSB). Beloved, could this possibly be you or me? The children of Israel refused to listen and continued in their idol worship.
Covenants are serious matters, not to be taken lightly. Watch, the consequence of a broken covenant can sometimes be devastating. Listen here, thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel, “Cursed is the man who does not hear the words of this covenant.” Read Jeremiah 11:3 (LSB).
Heavenly Father, You are great and greatly to be praised. Let these words of Yours, take root in our hearts and mind in Christ name. Amen.

Bien-aimés, avez-vous une idole dans votre vie? Vous pourriez dire non et probablement ne pas avoir d’images que vous vénérez ou sculptées dans une pièce quelque part. Il peut s’agir d’une carrière, d’une entreprise ou d’une famille, et la liste est interminable. Ce que je veux dire ici, c’est que nous pouvons être tout aussi coupables que les enfants d’Israël. Ecoutez ici: “Ce peuple M’honore de ses lèvres, mais son coeur est loin de Moi.” Lisez Matthieu 15:8 (LSB). Bien-aimés, cela pourrait-il être vous ou moi ? Les enfants d’Israël refusèrent d’écouter et continuèrent d’adorer leurs idoles.
Les alliances sont des questions sérieuses qui ne doivent pas être prises à la légère. Attention, les conséquences d’une alliance rompue peuvent parfois être dévastatrices. Ecoutez, ainsi parle Yahweh, le Dieu d’Israël: Maudit soit l’homme qui n’entend pas les paroles de cette alliance. Lisez Jérémie 11:3 (LSB).
Père céleste, tu es grand et tu mérites d’être loué. Que tes paroles s’enracinent dans nos cœurs et dans nos esprits au nom du Christ. Amen.
