“Christian unity is the state of being united to, alive in, and governed by, Jesus Christ our living Lord, in company with all other Christians, past and present, those now with Christ in the ‘heavenly Jerusalem’ of Hebrews 12:22 and those on earth with us today” J. I. Packer.
The Bible says, “And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, ‘Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand.'” Read Matthew 12:25 (KJV). In Christianity today, we tend to be in disagreement with Biblical theology and Christology. For example, “So God created man in His own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.” Read Genesis 1:27 (KJV). Listen to this, “Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.” Read Genesis 2:24 (KJV). Beloved, you will think that we can all agree on this, but wrong. Some Christian folks completely disagree with this text, hence, espousing liberal theology. If we in the body of Christ, can’t agree on these fundamental foundations of faith, how then can we be expected to be effective in our witness for Christ.
Listen to what the Apostle Paul says, “Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.” Read 1 Corinthians 1:10 (KJV). Here we see the Apostle Paul placing emphasis on the unity of doctrine in our local assemblies. Beloved, how else shall we be identified if we differ on the core of who we are in Christ? Listen to this, “That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one.” Read John 17:21-22 (KJV).
Sound Biblical doctrine must be the foundation of all Church life. Beloved, this is non-negotiable [Selah – pause and calmly think]. The Bible says, “And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart.” Read Acts 2:46 (KJV). They being who? Believers in Christ, going into the temple to praise God, observing the daily hours of prayer – Acts 3:1, and to proclaim the Gospel of Christ – v47.
Heavenly Father, we look to You as our role model. Hence, the Bible says, “But of Him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption.” Read 1 Corinthians 1:30 (KJV).

La Bible dit: “Et Jésus connaissait leurs pensées, et il leur dit: Tout royaume divisé contre lui-même est réduit à la désolation; et toute ville ou maison divisée contre elle-même ne subsistera pas.” Lisez Matthieu 12:25 (LSG). Dans le christianisme d’aujourd’hui, nous avons tendance à être en désaccord avec la théologie biblique et la christologie. Par exemple: “Dieu créa donc l’homme à son image, il le créa à l’image de Dieu; c’est l’homme et la femme qui les ont créés. Lisez Genèse 1:27 (LSG). Écoutez ceci: “C’est pourquoi l’homme quittera son père et sa mère, et il s ‘attachera à sa femme, et ils seront une seule chair.” Lisez Genèse 2:24 (LSG). Bien-aimés, vous penserez que nous pouvons tous être d’accord sur ce point, mais vous vous trompez. Certaines personnes chrétiennes sont complètement en désaccord avec ce texte. Observez ceci, si nous, dans le corps du Christ, ne pouvons pas nous mettre d’accord sur ces fondements fondamentaux de la foi, comment pouvons-nous alors être censés être efficaces dans notre témoignage du Christ.
Écoutez ce que dit l’apôtre Paul: “Maintenant, je vous conjure, frères, par le nom de notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ, de dire tous la même chose, et qu’il n’y ait pas de divisions parmi vous; mais que vous soyez parfaitement unis dans le même esprit et dans le même jugement. Lisez 1 Corinthiens 1:10 (LSG). Ici, nous voyons l’apôtre Paul mettre l’accent sur l’unité de la doctrine dans nos assemblées locales. Bien-aimés, comment serons-nous autrement identifiés si nous différons sur le fond de ce que nous sommes en Christ? Écoutez ceci: “Que tous soient un ; comme toi, Père, tu es en moi, et moi en toi, afin qu’eux aussi soient un en nous, afin que le monde croie que tu m’as envoyé. Et la gloire que tu m’as donnée, je la leur ai donnée; afin qu’ils soient un, comme nous sommes un.” Lisez Jean 17:21-22 (LSG).
La saine doctrine biblique doit être le fondement de toute la vie de l’Église. Bien-aimés, ce n’est pas négociable [Selah – pause et réflexion calme]. La Bible dit: “Et eux, demeurant chaque jour d‘un commun accord dans le temple, et rompant le pain de maison en maison, mangeaient leur viande avec joie et simplicité de cœur.” Lisez Actes 2:46 (LSG). Ils étant qui? Les croyants en Christ, allant dans le temple pour louer Dieu, observant les heures quotidiennes de prière – Actes 3:1, et pour proclamer l’Évangile du Christ – v47.
Père céleste, nous te regardons comme notre modèle. C’est pourquoi la Bible dit: “Mais de lui vous êtes en Jésus-Christ, qui nous a été fait de Dieu la sagesse, la justice, la sanctification et la rédemption.” Lisez 1 Corinthiens 1:30 (LSG).
