Therefore I, the prisoner in the Lord, exhort you to walk worthy of the calling with which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, being diligent to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit, just as also you were called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all who is over all and through all and in all. Ephesians 4:1-6 (LSB).
The Bible speaks about unity of the Spirit as a spiritual cord that surrounds and binds God’s precious people. Beloved, let us remember who the enemy of our soul is, the devil, “the accuser of the brethren.” Read Revelation 12:10 (LSB). When true believers are united against the forces of evil, we become a formidable force in the hands of God, through the power of the Holy Spirit. I am reminded, “Thou art my battle axe and weapons of war: for with thee will I break in pieces the nations, and with thee will I destroy kingdoms…” Read Jeremiah 51:20 (KJV).
One Spirit: Disunity is a sin against God! The Bible says, “Therefore if there is any encouragement in Christ, if there is any consolation of love, if there is any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and compassion, fulfill my joy, that you think the same way, by maintaining the same love, being united in spirit, thinking on one purpose, doing nothing from selfish ambition or vain glory, but with humility of mind regarding one another as more important than yourselves, not merely looking out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.” Read Philippians 2:1-4 (LSB). Paul’s joy was predicated on the unity of believers, hence, “…that they may do it with joy...” Read Hebrews 13:17c (KJV).
One Hope: Hope is an expectation of what is sure. There is one thing we are sure of beloved, and that is “And we have as more sure the prophetic word.” Read 2 Peter 1:19a (LSB). What is the prophetic word? Turn with me to Ephesians 1:11-14 (LSB) which says, “In Him, we also have been made an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will, to the end that we who first have hoped in Christ would be to the praise of His glory. In Him, you also, after listening to the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation—having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is given as a pledge of our inheritance, unto the redemption of God’s own possession, to the praise of His glory.” Beloved, God gave us a pledge of eternal inheritance, and the Bible says, “God is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He should repent; has He said, and will He not do it? Or has He spoken, and will He not establish it?” Read Numbers 23:19 (LSB). The Scripture helps us cement the nature and character of God in our hearts saying, “For I am watching over My Word to do it.” Read Jeremiah 1:12 (LSB).
The Book of Ecclesiastes says, “A cord of three strands is not quickly torn apart.” Read Ecclesiastes 4:12c (LSB). We will become a formidable force as a collective; driving towards the single purpose of God – “You are the light of the world.” Matthew 5:14 (LSB).
Our spiritual unity is established, rooted and anchored in the promises of God – eternal inheritance. No other religion can guarantee eternal inheritance.

La Bible parle de l’unité de l’Esprit comme d’un cordon spirituel qui entoure et lie le précieux peuple de Dieu. Bien-aimés, rappelons-nous qui est l’ennemi de notre âme, le diable, “l’accusateur des frères.” Lis Apocalypse 12:10 (LSB). Lorsque les vrais croyants sont unis contre les forces du mal, nous devenons une force redoutable entre les mains de Dieu, par la puissance du Saint-Esprit. Il m’est rappelé: “Tu es ma hache de guerre et mes armes de guerre, car avec toi je briserai les nations, et avec toi je détruirai les royaumes…” Lisez Jérémie 51:20 (LSG).
Un seul Esprit: La désunion est un péché contre Dieu! La Bible dit: “C’est pourquoi, s’il y a quelque encouragement en Christ, s’il y a quelque consolation dans l’amour, s’il y a quelque communion de l’Esprit, si quelque affection et quelque compassion comblent ma joie, c’est que vous pensiez de la même manière, en gardant le même amour, en étant unis en esprit, en pensant dans un seul but, ne faisant rien par ambition égoïste ou par vaine gloire, mais avec humilité d’esprit, en vous considérant les uns les autres comme plus importants que vous-mêmes, en ne veillant pas seulement à vos propres intérêts personnels, mais aussi aux intérêts des autres.” Lisez Philippiens 2:1-4 (LSB). La joie de Paul était fondée sur l’unité des croyants, c’est pourquoi “…afin qu’ils le fassent avec joie...” Lisez Hébreux 13:17c (LSG).
Un espoir: L’espoir est une attente de ce qui est certain. Il y a une chose dont nous sommes sûrs, bien-aimés, c’est: “Et nous avons comme plus sûr la parole prophétique.” Lisez 2 Pierre 1:19a (LSB). Qu’est-ce que la parole prophétique? Tournez-vous avec moi vers Éphésiens 1:11-14 (LSB) qui dit: “En lui, nous aussi nous avons été faits en héritage, ayant été prédestinés selon le dessein de celui qui opère toutes choses selon le conseil de sa volonté, afin que nous, qui avons d’abord espéré en Christ, soyons à la louange de sa gloire. En lui aussi, après avoir écouté la parole de vérité, l’Évangile de votre salut, ayant aussi cru, vous avez été scellés en lui par l’Esprit Saint de promesse, qui est donné en gage de notre héritage, pour la rédemption de la possession de Dieu, pour la louange de sa gloire.
Bien-aimés, Dieu nous a donné un gage d’héritage éternel, et la Bible dit: “Dieu n’est pas un homme pour mentir, ni un fils de l’homme pour se repentir; a-t-il dit, et ne le fera-t-il pas? Ou a-t-il parlé, et ne l’établira-t-il pas? Lisez Nombres 23:19 (LSB). L’Écriture nous aide à cimenter la nature et le caractère de Dieu dans nos cœurs en disant: “Car je veille sur ma Parole pour la faire.” Lisez Jérémie 1:12 (LSB).
Le livre de l’Ecclésiaste dit: “Une corde à trois brins ne se déchire pas rapidement.” Lisez Ecclésiaste 4:12c (LSB). Nous deviendrons une force formidable en tant que collectif ; conduisant vers le seul dessein de Dieu: “Tu es la lumière du monde.” Matthieu 5:14 (LSB).
Notre unité spirituelle est établie, enracinée et ancrée dans les promesses de Dieu, l’héritage éternel. Aucune autre religion ne peut garantir l’héritage éternel.
