“John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins [that is, requiring a change of one’s old way of thinking, turning away from sin and seeking God and His righteousness].” Read Mark 1:4 (AMP). John’s message throughout his entire ministry was “REPENT AND BE BAPTIZED.” Similarly, when we study the ministry of Christ our Lord and Saviour, we will notice especially in the Books of Matthew and Mark, Jesus’s proclamation was “REPENT.” In like manner, the Apostle Paul preached to both Jews and Gentiles to “REPENT.” Brothers and sisters, the gospel of Christ is incomplete when we omit the preaching of REPENTANCE. John the Baptist and Christ our LORD were models for you and me on how to preach the gospel.
