Read more: Cast not away your Confidence – Part 1bCast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompense of reward. For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.
Hebrews 10:35-36 (KJV)
Patience is not something that comes naturally. Patience is a fruit of the spirit which needs to be cultivated. The Bible says, “But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.” Read Galatians 5:22-23 (NLT). Patience is a learned behaviour!
Satan has several ways of harassing us as believers and suffering for long in any circumstance, especially for the cause of Christ, can lead to patience fatigue. But the Bible says we need patience. Every believer in Christ needs patience to endure physical, mental, or spiritual difficulties. Patience in the Greek [hupomone] means steadfastness, resilience, and constancy. The one who is patient has their allegiance to God even during trials and tribulations from within and without. Listen to what the Bible says, “Even now Lord Yahweh helps me, therefore, I am not dishonored; therefore, I have set my face like flint, and I know that I will not be ashamed.” Read Isaiah 50:7 (LSB).
The Apostle Paul writes about the peace we have with God by faith through grace. The Bible says, “Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.” Read Romans 5:3-5 (ESV). I am sure you are familiar with this saying, “There is always light at the end of the tunnel.”
The apostle Paul speaks of a future promise. To do the will of God and to receive the promise will require patience. A perfect Biblical reference is that of Caleb, and you can find the story in Joshua 14:6-15 (NLT). Listen to this, “Remember what the Lord said to Moses, the man of God, about you and me when we were at Kadesh-Barnea. I was forty years old when Moses, the servant of the Lord, sent me from Kadesh-Barnea to explore the land of Canaan…”Now, as you can see, the Lord has kept me alive and well as he promised for all these forty-five years since Moses made this promise—even while Israel wandered in the wilderness. Today I am eighty-five years old. I am as strong now as I was when Moses sent me on that journey, and I can still travel and fight as well as I could then. So give me the hill country that the Lord promised me.” Read Joshua 14:6-15. Here is my point, forty years had passed, and God’s eternal promise was about to be fulfilled, and that promise kept Caleb alive. Why? Because God who spoke and gave the promise is Faithful, “watching over His Word to perform it.” Hallelujah!
Beloved, God cannot deny Himself. Therefore, “Let us hold resolutely to the hope we profess, for He who promised is faithful.” Read Hebrews 10:23 (MSB).
