And inasmuch as it is appointed unto men once to die, and after this cometh judgment. Hebrews 9:27 (ASV).
Read more: Death: Are You Insured? 1bThe modern man will hardly give death any serious thought. Medical science to an extent has made it possible for people to live longer. And as a consequence, this has fuelled a false sense of immortality. The Bible says, “And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation; that they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after Him, and find Him, though He be not far from every one of us.” Read Acts 17:26-27 KJV. The Bible says, “Seeing his days are determined, the number of his months are with thee, thou hast appointed his bounds that he cannot pass.” Read Job 14:5. Here is more evidence to support the fact that our days are numbered here on earth. “Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.” Read Psalm 139:16. Here, we see God’s power to know us in our most intricate form.
The Bible describes death as having a threefold experience – [1. Spiritual, 2. Physical, & 3. Eternal: cast into the lake of fire].
Physical Death: The Bible says, “For as the body without the spirit is dead.” In other words, the separation of the soul [the very essence of man] from the body. The Bible further says, “His spirit departs, he returns to his earth; In that very day his plans perish.” Read Psalm 146:4 (NKJV). The Bible uses some terminologies to describe physical death. Paul describes it as “A departure out of this world.” Read 2 Timothy 4:6. (KJV). The Bible also refers to physical death as, “Going the way of all the earth.” Read Joshua 23:14. Another Bible verse, expresses physical death as, “And also all that generation were gathered unto their fathers.” Read Judges 2:10. The Bible also calls physical death as, “Sleep.” Read John 11:11. Lastly, the Bible refers to physical death as “Yielding up the ghost.” Read Acts 5:10. The Bible says, “For dust you are, and to dust you shall return.”
Father in Heaven, we are reminded through Your Word that “You put to death, and You bring to life.” Help us to be cognisant of the frailty of our human life. Thank You, for Your grace and mercy sustains us, every waking day, in Christ name.
We write. You read. Be encouraged.
