And inasmuch as it is appointed unto men once to die, and after this cometh judgment. Hebrews 9:27 (ASV).
Read more: Death: Are you Insured – Part 1cI recently found out that some high profile sports people have actually taken out insurance on certain parts of their body, for huge sums of amount, the parts they deem crucial for their careers. One report cites an Argentinean footballer insuring his left foot for around £750 million policy. A famous Portugese player had his legs insured for £90 million policy. Several other high profile sports personalities, have equally insured parts of their body which helps them ply their trade. I have not mentioned these people so that we can trip over them, but this shows just how seriously people take insurance – ensuring what they value the most is protected.
The Bible says, “For what doth it profit a man, to gain the whole world, and forfeit his life?” Read Mark 8:36. What good is it, when we insure our most priced possessions, or even parts of our members, yet often neglect the most important thing of all, our soul. Heavenly Father, I pray, have mercy on us, “Teach me thy way, O Jehovah; I will walk in thy truth: unite my heart to fear thy name.” Read Psalm 86:11.
The other type of death, spoken of by the Scripture is the spiritual type of death. Spiritual death happens at conception, leaving all humans, though physically alive, but spiritually dead unto to God through sin. The Psalmist writes, “Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.” Read Psalm 51:5. Adam lived on physically, but spiritually, he became separated from God. From that moment, every human has been born physically alive but spiritually dead because of sin: “Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin did my mother conceive me.” Read Psalm 51:5. The Bible says, “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Read Romans 6:23. “And you were dead in the trespasses and sins in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience.” Read Ephesians 2:1-2.
The Bible teaches that beyond physical death, there is something far more serious — spiritual death. This began with Adam’s disobedience in the Garden of Eden when God warned, “…in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.” Read Genesis 2:17. Just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned.” Read Romans 5:12. But there is good news – transformation from spiritual death to spiritual life is made possible, through faith in Jesus Christ. Listen to this, “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God.” Read Ephesians 2:8. There is hope for a dying world, and the Bible counsels God “Desires all people to be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth.” Read 1 Timothy 2:4.
Beloved, the greatest assurance in life is to be assured of eternal salvation, through belief in Jesus Christ, as your Lord and Saviour. Jesus said, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” Read John 14:6.
Father in Heaven, thank You that I am not only physically alive, but spiritually alive, having received the gift of salvation of my soul. Thank You, Jesus, “Your Word is a lamp to my feet, and a light unto my path.”
We write. You read. Be blessed.
