Does it pay to be Godly? – Part 2

Godliness is characterized by a Godward attitude with the sole purpose of pleasing God, honouring God, reverencing our Heavenly Father. Godlessness is the moment we move away from Gods precepts and teachings. In other words we decide to go our own way, do our own things and the danger in this is, the moment we move away from God, everything goes wrong.

Let us hear and see what the Psalmist says in Psalm 73:27 (KJV) “For lo, they that are far from thee shall perish: thou hast destroyed all them that go a whoring from thee. BUT it is good for me to draw near to God: I have put my trust in the Lord God, that I may declare all thy works.” And based on the scripture we just read, I believe we are faced with two propositions in life, it is either we are far from God, or near to God, there is no in between, you are either one or the other. The secret to Godliness, is to keep near to God.

The challenge I believe Christians face in their day to day interactions is the lack of boldness to take a stand for their faith and what they believe in without being made to look foolish or out of touch with reality. Well, let us settle this right here and now; living a godly life attracts persecution – really, seriously? Hear what 2 Timothy 3:12 says “Indeed all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.” So you are in good and safe company. Do not let society take you down the road of compromise, maintain your stand in God, you are not odd for your beliefs; God is honored and the host of Heaven is applauding every decision of godliness in your dealings and interactions with humanity.

God is loving and compassionate, and He desires for us to be in a position of strength and not of weakness, hence Deuteronomy 30:19 “Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you choose life. so that you and your descendants might live.” Imagine with me for a moment, your Professor at university setting questions as they usually do, and gives you the answer as well, impressing upon you which is the right one.
