Does it pay to be Godly? – Part 4

The decision to live Godly in an environment where there seem to be lawlessness comes at a price, however the joy of being rescued and shielded by God is much more sweeter. Let us look at what the scripture says about this He saw and heard how the people around him broke the Law. Everyday his own soul which was right with God was troubled because of their sinful ways. But the Lord knows how to help men who are right with God when they are tempted. He also knows how to keep the sinners suffering for their wrong-doing until the day they stand before God Who will judge them. Read 2 Peter 2:8-9 (NIV). The context of this story relates to Lot (a good man according to scriptures) who lived in Sodom and Gomorrah, a city known for its impenitent sin. I am sure like Lot, you and I can identify experiences of a similar kind, where our souls have been vexed because of the level of unrighteousness we see around us, NEVERTHELESS…our resolve as Christians who operate in the market place or any place at all is to “keep near to God.” Well then, how do we keep near to God when there are so many challenges confronting us? How do I continually live a Godly life, when??? Let us see what the scripture tells us to do.

  • Live a life of prayer: Scripture tells us “Jesus was telling them a parable about their need to pray continuously and not to be discouraged..” Luke 18:1 (CEB). Well you might be saying, how do I find time? You have to ask the Holy Spirit to help you. This point cannot be over-emphasized enough; talking to God  = the air you breadth, you cannot do without it. Do not allow the voice of the world drown out the voice of God in your life, channel your being and energy to seeking after Godly counsel from the scriptures on how to navigate your day, week, month, years and life.

  • Study your Bible, it is critically important. Are you aware that God primarily speaks to us first through His Word. Scripture says “My child, pay attention to what I say. Listen carefully to my words. Don’t lose sight of them. Let them penetrate deep into your heart, for they bring life to those who find them, and healing to their whole body.” Read Proverbs 4:20-22 (NLT). Another verse of scripture says “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who doesn’t need to be ashamed, correctly teaching the word of truth.” Read ” Timothy 2:15 (HCSB). Take action, and do not be complacent, determine to read your Bible, and the good thing today with technology is that you have it with you on the go.

  • Attend Church, it is very important; it is a place where understanding, enlightenment and encouragement comes. Scripture says “Not forsaking or neglecting to assemble together [as believers], as is the habit of some people, but admonishing (warning, urging, and encouraging) one another, and all the more faithfully as you see the day approaching.” Read Hebrews 10:25 (AMPC). Matthew 18: 20 “For where two or three gather in my name, there I am with them.” Let us devote ourselves to fellowship, it helps us know that we are not standing alone, and that we are in the company of like minded believers where openness and vulnerability is embraced.

Like a famous news anchor would say “Don’t go away.”
