Perfecting Holiness in the fear of God – Part 1

I am excited to be introducing this new topical discussion. Our Christian experience is a walk of faith and consistency in the Lord. Imagine with me for a minute, when you put a seed in the ground; you allow the seed to embrace the nutrients in its environment in order for it to blossom and grow correctly without any defects. In like manner, when we plant the seed of Gods word in us, we embrace the word, and allow its root grow deeper  and spread through every area of our lives. Roots have many fibres, and the roots from Gods word permeates every fibre of our being. We should endeavour to soak ourselves in Gods word on a daily basis, that way we become more like Him.

When you think about the word holiness, what immediately comes to mind? Growing up as a child, the word ‘Holiness’ meant perfection; but as I began to avail myself to insight from the Holy Spirit and Gods word, things became clearer; and Holiness became to me how God defined it. Therefore, holiness is not about rules and regulations, and it certainly is not about what you wear or don’t wear. Holiness is ‘Absolute Perfection.’ I would put it like this; being ‘distinct in character, nature and attitude.’

The scripture says, “For He has rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and transferred us into the Kingdom of His dear Son.” Read Colossians 1:13 (MSG). In other words, you have been brought into Gods character, nature and distinctness. Selah. And if we have to do further exegesis on the word “Kingdom,” It refers to Gods rule and reign in the affairs of man on the earth. God has covenanted Himself to rule in every area of our lives; if only we would allow Him take the wheel.!

Perfecting holiness, indicates a continuous process, never ending state of being, a steady progress of daily expressing, experiencing and exhibiting Gods character, nature and distinctness. Watch this, our distinctness is not only for our benefit, but most importantly, for the benefit of others. Remember, we have been brought into the Kingdom of His dear Son, which means, we now have a new DNA – Divine, Nature Attitude. Everything about us ought to have changed; in how we interact with the world around us, hence its a continual process of perfecting holiness, and we need to co-operate with the Holy Spirit. The Bible says of the Holy Spirt,”He is our helper.”

The life of holiness is one of constant believing and saying whatever Gods says. It is a life of the fullness of God in ones life, hence the Bible says, “For out of His fullness (abundance) we have all received [all had a share and we were all supplied with] one grace after another and spiritual blessing upon spiritual blessing and even favor upon favor and gift [heaped] upon gift.” Read John 1:16 (AMPC). Therefore, you and I living the life of holiness on this earth is absolutely feasible and possible through the help of the Holy Spirit.

“Therefore, since we have these promises, dear friends, let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for God.” Read 2 Corinthians 7:1 (NIV). Dearly beloved, we have an active role to play, hence it says, “let us purify ourselves.”
