Depth – Part 3

depthThe quality of your life is I believe based on the depth of information one is exposed to. Listen to this beautiful Bible verse “Your words were found and I ate them, and Your words became a joy to me and the delight of my heart; for I have been called by Your name, Oh Lord God of hosts.” Read Jeremiah 15:16 (AMP). Key words here, ‘words were found,’ in other words we have to search and locate the truth as we would a treasure.

  • You must study your Bible
    • The scripture is quite clear when it says, “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” Read 2 Timothy 2:15 (KJV). Again the key words study (earnestness or diligence) and dividing (skillfully). So if we have to super-impose the words, the Biblical text would read thus, “Earnestly present yourself unto God… skilfully handling the word of truth.” Like blood is to the cells in our body, so also is the Bible to our spiritual development. The more we take our personal Bible study time seriously, the more we would be aware of the gravity of God’s exceedingly abundant grace. And some good tools to aid our Bible study can include:
      1. Bible
        • Several interpretations like Amplified, NIV, CEV, MSG, TLB, NKJV e.t.c.
      2.  Concordances
        • Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance of the Bible
      3. Dictionary and Encyclopaedias:
        • Vines Expository Dictionary – Old and New Testament
        • The Complete Word Study Dictionary
      4. Commentaries
        • Free Online Bible Commentaries
      5. Websites
      6. Bible study computer programs
  • You need the Holy Spirit to help you understand the word
    • But the Helper (Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor—Counselor, Strengthener, Standby), the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name [in My place, to represent Me and act on My behalf], He will teach you all things. And He will help you remember everything that I have told you.” Read John 14:26 (AMP). Watch this beloved, the Holy Spirit reveals and brings to light the truth in Gods word such that it impacts on our human spirit. Recall this, Jesus could not begin or continue His ministry independent of the Holy Spirit, hence the Bible says, “This is God’s Message to Zerubbabel: ‘You can’t force these things. They only come about through My Spirit,’ says God-of-the-Angel-Armies.” Read Zechariah 4:6 (MSG). Now, if Jesus won’t act independent of the Holy Spirit, why then should we? Selah.  In this wise, the in and outworking of the Holy Spirit can’t be over-emphasised, it is that important and crucial and part of our Salvation experience. I love this quote, “The Holy Spirit helps the messenger prepare.” You know what there is so much to be said about the person of the Holy Spirit and I might just give myself a challenge to talk about the role the Holy Spirit plays in the life of the Christian.

This is absolutely fascinating listening to and researching simple ways from scripture to help us become a people of depth and substance; and I want to encourage you to share your feedback with us and let us know how you have been blessed through our posts. The more I am convinced about God’s truth, the greater my appetite to keep researching.

We write. You read. Be encouraged.
