Staying Nourished – Part 1

fullsizeoutput_37The concern of any parent for their children would be about how well nourished or accomplished they turn out to be. In like manner, God as our Heavenly Father is concerned about our spiritual nourishment, He is particular about our spiritual development because there is the need for us to mature into fully grown individuals with well-developed vitals. Can you imagine a grown adult without their vital organs functioning properly?

To stay nourished in the natural, we eat the right food, take our vegetables, sleep well, take the right supplements, exercise regularly, properly and generally maintain a balanced and healthy lifestyle. Likewise, spiritual nourishment requires a certain type of food and exercise, and we would be exploring these in subsequent posts.

Listen to this, “For it is not mere words that nourish, but God Himself.” A.W. Tozer. Hence the Bible says, “Your Words are what sustain me; they are food to my hungry soul. They bring joy to my sorrowing heart and delight me. How proud I am to bear your name, O Lord.” Read Jeremiah 15:16 (TLB).

Nourish means to “provide with the food or other substances necessary for growth, health, and good condition.” Listen to what the Bible says, “For he will be [nourished] like a tree planted by the waters, that spreads out its roots by the river…” Read Jeremiah 17:8 (AMP). Watch this, the only reason the tree is nourished is that it is planted by the waters. In like manner as Children of God, nourishment comes from staying connected or close to the source – God’s Word.

Also, remember the scripture “But you, beloved, build yourselves up on [the foundation of] your most holy faith [continually progress, rise like an edifice higher and higher], pray in the Holy Spirit.” Read Jude 20 (AMP). Here you can see steady progress being made as a result of constantly praying in the Holy Spirit. Praying in the Spirit folks nourishes our soul. So I posit, one way we are nourished is by speaking in tongues or praying in the Holy Spirit daily.

We write. You read. Be encouraged.
