This is a beautiful quote, “I believe that God will help us to forget things, the memory of which would do us harm, or rather that He will enable us to remember only so much of them as will be for our good, and we, ourselves, not emotionally overwhelmed. The pain endured. The lesson learned. Let it now be forgotten! Face the future with courage, cheerfulness, and hope. Give God the chance and He will make you forget all that it would be harmful to remember.” William Edwin Sangster.
Beloved, do you know Jesus has been in your past, is in your present and is most definitely in your future.? Well, well, what will make you make such a bold and categorical statement? Are you telling me that when I was not a Christian, God was there? I am glad you asked, see what the Bible says, “Long before He laid down earth’s foundations, He had us in mind, had settled on us as the focus of His love, to be made whole and holy by His love. Long, long ago He decided to adopt us into His family through Jesus Christ. (What pleasure He took in planning this!) He wanted us to enter into the celebration of His lavish gift-giving by the hand of His beloved Son.” Read Ephesians 1:4 (MSG).
Listen to this – “Long before – Your Past,” “He had us in mind – Your Present” and “Settled on us as the focus of His love – Your Future.” Watch this, your past, present and future are encapsulated in this one word for you – His Love. I digress, for those who might be reading this and think, the circumstance of their birth is shady or clouded in a mystery, feeling they were never wanted; hear my heart on this matter, take heart and rejoice because you were in God’s plan all along! Watch this beloved, you were never ever a mistake, and I stand behind this statement because the Bible says, “Before I shaped you in the womb, I knew all about you. Before you saw the light of day, I had holy plans for you: A prophet to the nations— that’s what I had in mind for you.” Read Jeremiah 1:5 (MSG).
Can you see this? God is saying, ‘you are a child of destiny and purpose.’ Hey, you are God’s precious jewel, the apple of His eyes, the affection His love: Pause, Glory to God, Hallelujah. God is the foundation of our past present and future because “He is the same yesterday and today and forever.” Father God, thank You for Your unfailing commitment to never let me go, thank You, I can anchor my life on every word You speak, and for that I am grateful.
My Father, help me not to set my affections on the past, but instead to use my past as a launch pad into my present and future and to serve Your plan, purpose and pursuits in the name of Jesus. Amen.
