God speaking through the prophet Haggai and laying out His promise for Zerubbabel the governor of Judah saying “And again the word of the Lord came unto Haggai in the four and twentieth day of the month, saying, speak to Zerubbabel, governor of Judah, saying, I will shake the heavens and the earth; and I will overthrow the throne of kingdoms, and I will destroy the strength of the kingdoms of the heathen; and I will overthrow the chariots, and those that ride in them; and the horses and their riders shall come down, every one by the sword of his brother.” Read Haggai 2:20-22 (KJV). In other words, there is going to be a major and violent destruction on the earth which verse 22 speaks about. And clearly, we can see that the overturning of things mentioned in verse 22 is by the hand of God. And like Isaiah said, “For the LORD of hosts has planned, and who can frustrate it? And as for His stretched-out hand, who can turn it back?” Read Isaiah 14:27 (NASB).
Now, when we look back on events in history, kingdoms of this world were ultimately destroyed including those who were in rebellion against the Lord. Listen to this, “And He overthrew those cities, and all the valley, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and what grew on the ground.”Read Genesis 19:25 (NASB). In other words, political empires, nations with military might or economic strength will be crushed and done away with because “Nations have refused and neglected God’s prophetic warnings.” Read Micah 5:15 (NIV). Now, this might sound harsh to your hearing, but, we are dealing with a God of LOVE and JUSTICE. Listen to this, ‘It is an act of God’s LOVE to be JUST‘ [Pause and calmly think].
The final part to this prophecy is even more interesting, as it speaks of God’s seal of approval upon Zerubbabel, hence, “On that day,’ declares the Lord of hosts, ‘I will take you, Zerubbabel, son of Shealtiel, My servant,’ declares the Lord, ‘and I will make you like a signet ring, for I have chosen you,’ ” declares the Lord of hosts.” Read Haggai 2:23 (NASB). Watch this, we don’t desire the signet ring, we have something better – the “Blood of Jesus” is our signet ring. O, glory, hallelujah. The blood of Jesus is our seal and authority.!
Dear Lord, Jesus, thank You for revealing Your word to our hearts. My Father, help me to get my priorities in order, so that at the end of it all, I will hear “Well done, good and faithful servant.” Read Matthew 25:23.
