Therefore I, the prisoner of the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling with which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, being diligent to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
Ephesians 4:1-4 (NASB).
Here, we see Paul challenging the believers in Ephesus to ensure they live their lives above board and to diligently protect their profession – serving and demonstrating Christ to our world. Listen to what Peter writes, “Therefore, brethren, be all the more diligent to make certain about His calling and choosing you; for as long as you practice these things, you will never stumble.” Read 2 Peter 1:10 (NASB). Watch this, Paul further instructs the brethren in Ephesus, “But immorality or any impurity or greed must not even be named among you, as is proper among saints.” Read Ephesians 5:3 (NASB).
How does one “walk worthy of the calling”? Let us see what the Bible says.
1. With all humility and gentleness: Now, let us define the term (“humility“) means living in complete dependence on the Lord, i.e. with no reliance on self (the flesh). Humility “is an inside-out virtue produced by comparing ourselves to the Lord (rather than to others). This brings behavior into alignment with this inner revelation to keep one from being self-exalting (self-determining, self-inflated).” Whilst, (“gentleness“) means, it is a divinely – balanced virtue that can only operate through faith. Listen here beloved, “But flee from these things, you man of God, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, perseverance, and gentleness. Recall the Bible says, “And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for the one who comes to God must believe that He exists, and that He proves to be One who rewards those who seek Him.” Read Hebrews 11:6 (NASB). We are also aware that (“gentleness“) is a fruit of the Spirit; and every fruit must be cultivated and harvested [pause and calmly think].
2. With all patience: “embracing steadfastness and staying-power.” “divinely regulated patience.” Watch this beloved, “who once were disobedient when the patience of God kept waiting in the days of Noah, during the construction of the ark, in which a few, that is, eight persons, were brought safely through the water.” Read 1 Peter 3:20 (NASB). In other words, pause and calmly think for a long period of time before reacting.
As believers in Christ belonging to the household of God, we ought not to be tolerant of one another, but to Love one another. In other words, being superficial and in-authentic with fellow believers in Christ is an act of one immaturity and a lack of development in the things of God. And the sole purpose of been authentic in expressing love to one another is so that unity can flourish.
See what the Bible says about unity [the state of being one or undivided], “Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brothers to live together in unity! It is like the precious oil on the head, running down upon the beard, as on Aaron’s beard, the oil which ran down upon the edge of his robes. It is like the dew of Hermon Coming down upon the mountains of Zion; for the Lord commanded the blessing there—life forever.” Read Psalm 133:3 (NASB). Listen here, “unity” is a blessing from God. The Bible says, “By strength, shall no man prevail.”
Abba, thank You for expressing Your love for me through the sacrifice of Your one and only begotten Son. There are no words in the English vocabulary which I can use to express my deep gratitude and appreciation for your extravagant mercy towards me and all that concerns me. I am eternally grateful.

C’est pourquoi moi, prisonnier du Seigneur, vous exhorte à marcher d’une manière digne de l’appel avec lequel vous avez été appelés, avec toute humilité et douceur, avec patience, portant les uns avec les autres dans l’amour, en étant diligents pour maintenir l’unité de l’Esprit dans le lien de paix. “Lire Éphésiens 4:1-4 (NASB).
Ici, nous voyons Paul défier les croyants en Éphèse pour s’assurer qu’ils vivent leur vie au-dessus de bord et pour protéger avec diligence leur profession – servir et démontrer le Christ à notre monde. Écoutez ce que Pierre écrit: “Par conséquent, mes frères, soyez d’autant plus diligents de vous assurer de son appel et de son choix; aussi longtemps que vous pratiquez ces choses, vous ne trébuchez jamais. Lire 2 Pierre 1:10 (NASB). Regardez cela, Paul instruit en outre les frères dans Éphèse, “Mais l’immoralité ou toute impureté ou cupidité ne d oit même pas être nommé parmi vous, commeil est bon parmi les saints.” Lire Ephésiens 5:3 (NASB).
Comment peut-on “marcher digne de l’appel”? Voyons ce que dit la Bible.
- Avec toute l’humilité et la douceur: Maintenant, définissons le terme (“humilité“) signifie vivre en totale dépendance vis-à-vis du Seigneur, c’est-à-dire sans dépendre self de soi (la chair). L’humilité “est une vertu intérieure produite en nous comparant au Seigneur (plutôt qu’aux autres). Ce la met le comportement en alignement avec cette révélation intérieure pour empêcher l’un d’être auto-exaltant (auto-détermination, auto-gonflé).” Alors que (“douceur“) signifie, c’est une vertu divinement – équilibrée qui ne peut fonctionner que par la foi. Écoutez ici bien-aimé: “Mais fuyez ces choses, vous l’homme de Dieu, et poursuivre la justice, la piété, la foi, l’amour, la persévérance et la douceur. Rappelez-vous la Bible dit: “Et sans foi, il est impossible de lui s’il vous plaît , car celui qui vient à Dieu doit croire qu’Il existe, that et qu’Il se prouve être Celui qui récompense ceux qui le cherchent.” Lire Hébreux 11:6 (NASB). Nous sommes également conscients que (“douceur“) est un fruit de l’Esprit; et chaque fruit doit être cultivé et récolté [pause et penser calmement].
- Avec toute la patience: “embrasser la constance et rester-pouvoir.” “patience divinement régulée.” Regardez ce bien-aimé, “qui autrefois étaient désobéissants quand la patience de Dieu a continué à attendre dans les jours deNoé, pendant la construction de l’arche, dans laquelle quelques-uns, c’est-à-dire huit personnes, ont été amenés en toute sécurité à travers l’eau. the” Lire 1 Pierre 03:20 (NASB). En d’autres termes, faites une pause et réfléchissez calmement pendant une longue période avant de réagir.
En tant que croyants en Christ appartenant à la maison de Dieu, nous ne devons pas être tolérants les uns envers les autres, mais à nous aimer les uns les autres. En d’autres termes, être superficiel et authentique avec d’autres croyants en Christ est un acte d’une immaturité et d’un manque de développement dans les choses de Dieu. Et le seul but d’être authentique dans l’expression de l’amour les uns aux autres est de sorte que l’unité peut s’épanouir.
Voyez ce que dit la Bible sur l’unité [l’état d’être un ou indivis], “Voici, combien il est bon et agréable pour les frères de vivre ensemble dans l’unité! C’est comme l’huile précieuse sur la tête, qui coule sur la barbe, comme sur la barbed’Aaron, l’huile the oil qui descendait sur le bord de ses robes. C’est comme la rosée d’Hermon descendant sur les montagnes de Sion; car le Seigneur y commandait la bénédiction , la vie pour toujours. Lire Psaume 133:3 (NASB). Écoutez ici, “l’unité” est une bénédiction de Dieu. La Bible dit: “Par la force, aucun homme ne l’emportera.”
Abba, merci d’avoir exprimé Ton amour pour moi par le sacrifice de Ton Fils unique et unique.
