So then, be careful how you walk, not as unwise people but as wise, making the most of your time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. And do not get drunk with wine, in which there is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody with your hearts to the Lord; always giving thanks for all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to our God and Father; and subject yourselves to one another in the fear of Christ
Ephesians 5:15-21 (NASB)
Here again Paul is reiterating to the brethren in Ephesus about how to conduct their lives, “Be careful how you walk.” Listen here beloved, ‘our walk is not meant to be independent of God.’ J. B. Phillips puts it nicely, “Live life, then, with a due sense of responsibility, not as men who do not know the meaning and purpose of life but as those who do. Make the best use of your time, despite all the difficulties of these days. Don’t be vague but firmly grasp what you know to be the will of God. Don’t get your stimulus from wine (for there is always the danger of excessive drinking), but let the Spirit stimulate your souls.”
Scriptures helps you and me to understand how we ought to live one life in this hostile environment to biblical truth; “Do all you have to do without grumbling or arguing, so that you may be God’s children, blameless, sincere and wholesome, living in a warped and diseased world, and shining there like lights in a dark place. For you hold in your hands the very word of life.” Read Philippians 2:15 (J. B. Phillips). In other words; to live joyfully because we have the “Word of life.”
Beloved, every life here on earth has a purpose, and the Westminster Shorter Catechism help shed some light – “Man’s chief end is to glorify God, and to enjoy Him for ever.” Listen to this, “For from Him, and through Him, and to Him are all things. To Him be the glory forever, Amen.” Read Romans 11:36 (NASB). Watch this, “For in Him we live and move and exist.” Read Acts 17:28a (NASB).
“Wine is a mocker, strong drink a brawler, and whoever is intoxicated by it is not wise.” Read Proverbs 20:1 (NASB). Intoxicated by wine strips the drinker of his or her senses, it is a scary thing to watch someone who has yielded themselves to be intoxicated. However, Paul instructs that there is a type of wine we should be intoxicated by; the “Wine of the Holy Spirit.” This type of wine brings true joy and laughter to the soul “Making melody with your hearts to the Lord.” Listen to this, “Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise to Him with Psalms.” Read Psalm 95:2.
My Father in heaven, I am grateful and appreciate Your grace and mercy upon me. Thank You for the Cross of Calvary. It is because of the cross, I can stand boldly before You without any guilt shame or condemnation; I am free to serve my Father without any encumbrance and for that I am eternally grateful.

Alors, faites attention à la façon dont vous marchez, non pas comme des gens imprudents, mais aussi sage, en tirer le meilleur parti de votre temps, parce que les jours sont mauvais. Par conséquent, ne soyez pas stupide, mais comprenez ce qu’est la volonté du Seigneur. Et ne vous saoulez pas avec du vin, dans lequel il y a débauche, mais soyez remplis de l’Esprit, en vous parlant dans des psaumes, des hymnes et des chants spirituels, en chantant et en faisant de la mélodie avec vos cœurs au Seigneur; en rendant toujours grâce pour toutes choses au nom de notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ à notre Dieu et à notre Père; et soumettez-vousles uns aux autres dans la peur du Christ.

Là encore, Paul réitère aux frères d’Éphèse comment mener leur vie: “Fais attention à la façon dont tu marches.” Écoutez ici bien-aimé, “notre marche n’est pas destinée à être indépendante de Dieu. J.B. Phillips le dit bien, “Vivre la vie, alors, avec un sens dû des responsabilités, non pas comme des hommes qui ne connaissent pas le sens et le but de la vie, mais comme ceux qui le font. Faites le meilleur usage de votre temps, malgré toutes les difficultés de ces jours. Ne soyez pas vague, mais saisissez fermement ce que vous savez être la volonté de Dieu. N’obtenez pas votre stimulus du vin (car il y a toujours le danger de boire excessivement), mais laissez l’Esprit stimuler vos âmes.
Bien-aimé, chaque vie ici sur terre a un but, et le catéchisme plus court de Westminster aider à jeter un peu de lumière – “La fin principale de l’homme est de glorifier Dieu, et de profiter de Lui pour toujours.” Écoutez ceci, “Car de Lui, et à travers Lui, et à Lui sont toutes choses. Pour Lui être la gloire pour toujours, Amen. Lire Romains 11:36 (NASB). Regardez ceci, “Car en Lui nous vivons et bougeons et existons.” Lire Actes 17:28a (NASB).
“Le vin est un moqueur, boire fort un bagarreur, et celui qui est en état d’ébriété par elle n’est pas sage.” Lire Proverbes 20:1 (NASB). Intoxiqué par les bandes de vin le buveurde sessens, c’est une chose effrayante de regarder quelqu’un qui s’est donné pour être en état d’ébriété. Cependant, Paul instruit qu’il y a un type de vin que nous devrions être intoxiqués par; le “Vin de l’Esprit Saint“. Ce type de vin apporte une vraie joie et des rires à l’âme “Faire de la mélodie avec vos cœurs au Seigneur”. Écoutez ceci, “Venons devant Sa présence avec action de grâce, et faisons un bruit joyeux à Lui avec des Psaumes.” Lire Psaume 95:2.
Mon Père céleste, je vous suis reconnaissant et j’apprécie votre grâce et votre miséricorde envers moi. Merci pour la Croix du Calvaire. C’est à cause de la croix, je peux me tenir hardiment devant Vous sans aucune honte de culpabilité ou condamnation; Je suis libre de servir mon Père sans aucune écume et pour cela je suis éternellement reconnaissant.
