The Word of God declares in the Book of Micah 7:19, “He will turn again, He will have compassion upon us; He will subdue our iniquities; and thou wilt cast all their sins into the depths of the sea.” What a powerful picture of divine mercy! God is abundantly merciful and exceedingly forgiving. He does not merely overlook sin—He casts it into the depths of the sea, never to be held against us again.

This promise is fulfilled through the Cross of Jesus Christ. The Cross reaches into the deepest depths of human sin, suffering, and death. It bridges the distance between a Holy God and fallen humanity. It was there that Christ shed His blood for you and for me, granting us access to the Father. Because of His finished work, we are invited to approach God without fear. Hebrews 4:16 declares, “Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.”

When I think about the Lord—how He saved me and set my feet upon a solid foundation—I cannot help but give Him glory, honor, and praise. His mercy is truly boundless. The prophet asks in the Book of Micah 7:18–19, “Who is a God like unto thee, that pardoneth iniquity… He retaineth not His anger for ever, because He delighteth in mercy.” He delights in mercy! He has compassion upon us and subdues our iniquities. Hallelujah—I am forgiven!

King David understood the weight of sin and the need for mercy. In Psalms 51:1–3 he cries, “Have mercy upon me, O God… blot out my transgressions… wash me… cleanse me… For I acknowledge my transgressions.” David’s prayer reveals deep self-awareness and a desperate plea for cleansing. When we look at the Cross, we see that the depth of our sin is matched, and surpassed, by the depth of God’s grace, mercy, and love.

The hymn writer Charles Wesley captured this wonder when he wrote, “Depth of mercy! Can there be mercy still reserved for me?” The answer is yes—through Christ’s death on the Cross of Calvary. Hallelujah!

Beloved, the Cross offers infinite grace, regardless of the depth of sin. The deeper the sin, the greater His saving power. In the Gospel of Luke 14:22 we are reminded, “It is done as thou hast commanded, and yet there is room.” There is still room at the foot of the Cross! And the Book of Isaiah 59:1 assures us, “The Lord’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither His ear heavy, that it cannot hear.”

The invitation is open to all. The Epistle to Romans 10:13 proclaims, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” Salvation is made possible because, as 2 Corinthians 5:21 declares, “He hath made Him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him.” And in humble obedience, as written in Philippians 2:8, “He humbled Himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the Cross.”

This is the Gospel: mercy triumphing over judgment, grace reaching deeper than sin, and love stronger than death. Because of the Cross, we are forgiven. Because of the Cross, we have access. Because of the Cross, we can come boldly to the throne of grace. Because of the Cross, we have eternal life, and partakers of the heavenly calling. Glory to God!

Dear Lord, Jesus, Your name is great, and greatly to be praised. The one who speaks, and it comes to pass. “He that openeth, and no man shutteth; and shutteth, and no man openeth” – this is the Almighty God, whom I serve.
