Be the one with the Pitcher and Pour – Part 1

The word PITCHER, according to Merriam-Webster’s dictionary “a handled container for holding and pouring liquids that usually has a lip or a spout. In other words, the PITCHER is built to TAKE IN and to GIVE OUT. The word PITCHER is also a very popular term in a sport called baseball. In baseball, the PITCHER is the player who throws the baseball from the PITCHERS mound toward the catcher to begin to play. Recall the Bible says, “But we have this precious treasure [the good news about salvation] in [unworthy] earthen vessels [of human frailty], so that the grandeur and surpassing greatness of the power will be [shown to be] from God [His sufficiency] and not from ourselves. Read  2 Corinthians 4:7 (AMP). The Greek rendering of the word PITCHER means earthen vessel.’ In other words, there is something about you and I we carry, which the world cannot do without. Think with me for a minute, the greatest treasure (the Gospel of Salvation) is deposited in our human bodies; and not just to be deposited, but to be poured out freely and with liberality to anyone who would dare stretch out their container to receive or collect the abundance of God’s exceedingly abundant grace and love and mercy. So my dear reader, the next time you say, ‘you don’t have anything to offer,’ think again. The Bible just told you, there is a treasure in you, the world needs to taste of. The question then becomes how do I pour out of me what has been deposited? On the basis of the verse of scripture we just read in 2 Corinthians 4, I am in no doubt, there is substance in each and every one of us; and what we have to do according to Galatians 6:4 (MSG), “Make a careful exploration of who you are and the work you have been given, and then sink yourself into that. Don’t be impressed with yourself. Don’t compare yourself with others. Each of you must take responsibility for doing the creative best you can with your own life.” Did you hear the Bible? You must dig deep within, to locate the treasure deposited in you, and make the best use of it; there is creativity in you, and the best way to make use of it, is by preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ, everywhere you go.

Pitcher Pouring Water

The PITCHER is a PITCHER for a reason. It is a receptacle, and it is meant to be dispensing. When a dispenser stops dispensing the liquid becomes stale and starts to smell or even stink, and that can be very unpleasant. I am sure the dispenser will get fed-up of its ability or the lack thereof to dispense liquid stored in its container. It can be quite frustrating right? Have you been at a place where there is so much on the inside of you, yet there seem to be something stopping the flow of whatever it is that needs to come out you? Have you considered an air conditioning unit, where the filter stops the flow of clean and pure air from circulating? Check your filter, because it could be clogged up with so much dust, and the thing to do is remove the filter and give it a good wash or run it through cold water. In like manner, if you are finding it difficult to dispense what is in you, then check what can be a possible obstruction; could it be a jam in the frequency, or a punctured tyre? PITCHERS come in different shapes and sizes, and you and I have been designed and wired differently, however one similarity you and I have is that we are PITCHERS. We might have different expressions, and function in several ways, but the ultimate deliverable or assignment of every PITCHER is to DISPENSE that which has been committed into its care, through the exceeding grace and help of the Holy Spirit.

I believe a PITCHERS main role from a Biblical perspective, is to collect spiritual substance and to dispense it. Selah!!! The Bible makes us understand, we are distributors of the “New Covenant,” hence Romans 6:14-15 says, “…For you are not under law but under grace,” referring to a new and a better covenant. We are spiritual beings, and the substance of our very existence is founded on the Spiritual, and not the natural; therefore, dearly beloved, embrace and pursue after the Spirit of God, hence the Bible said, “Steep your life in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions. Don’t worry about missing out. You’ll find all your everyday human concerns will be met.” Read Matthew 6:33 (MSG). Here is a thought; the baseball PITCHER does not wait to be told to pitch before he pitches? Correct, so what are you waiting for to PITCH? Just pitch anyway, because there are those who have been designed to catch what you are pitching!!! Here is what I want you to do, first, gain and understand the CONCEPT of being a pitcher, allow the concept to FORM in you, then PUSH and be committed to what has been conceptualised in your heart. It is as you push, that you begin to pour, and this comes from a relationship with God and His word.

The next post, we would be exploring the life and ministry of Jesus Christ; He was the PITCHER of all PITCHERS; and according to Biblical history, what Jesus pitched Century’s ago is still being caught today. I certainly caught it, and that is why I am PITCHING what I caught, are you? Consider, consider, consider.
