Depth – Part 5

depthLoose lips sink ships.” This was a saying during World War II, and it was a form of warning to those on the ship to “beware of unguarded talk” lest they reveal information to the opposition involved in espionage. Listen to this Bible verse and hear what it says, “You have been trapped by what you said, ensnared by the words of your mouth.” Read Proverbs 6:2 (NIV). When you read the re-creation story, we understand God created the spirit and the physical worlds; and here is the most interesting part, WORDS connected both worlds, Selah. Now, the Bible tells us the Holy Spirit was hovering over the face of the deep, then God said. Consequently, the Holy Spirit is waiting on you and I to speak faith filled words which He can work with on our behalf, hence the Bible says, “Bless the Lord, you mighty angels of His who carry out His orders, listening for each of His commands.” Read Psalm 103:20. And the Bible says, “As He is, so are we in this world.” Read  1 John 4:17 (AMP). In essence, we are counselled to give voice to God’s word which comes as a result of speaking only God’s word – consistent with His promises.

  • You must be someone who SPEAKS ONLY the word.
    • Set a guard, Oh Lord, over my mouth; Keep watch over the door of my lips [to keep me from speaking thoughtlessly].” Read Psalm 141:3 (AMP). You and I have been designed by God to speak words that is only consistent with His promises. In the Kingdom of God, words of faith are the currency we transact. Watch this beloved, the depth of rebellion is occurs when we speak unauthorised words, words that are not consistent with God’s promises. Listen to what the Bible says, “In the beginning was the one who is called the Word.” Read John 1:1 (CEV). Consequently, God’s word is priority and the only truth, so help me God. Everyday we are all bombarded with tons of information, and if we are not careful, can easily drift into leaning more towards what the analysts, textperts and experts keep saying from their limited information. I truly believe that the outcomes of our lives in some cases can be attributed to the things we say. Listen to what this verse says, “Those who love to talk will suffer the consequences, men have died for saying the wrong thing.” Read Proverbs 18:21 (TLB). So the question is, what are we saying, and most importantly when the heat is on? The cares and pressures of life can make some people utter fear based words, as supposed to faith filled words.
    • As Christians, we have to speak intelligently, and intelligence comes from knowing what the word of God says about a particular situation. A form of unintelligence is when we panic and begin to confess words that are not in line with what the scripture says about you or the situation. Let me clearly say this, God’s word has absolute integrity, it has been tested and found to be trustworthy. Now when I say SPEAK ONLY the word, what does that look like? This simply means,”Say exactly what God says or to admit and to acknowledge  usually referred to as homologeo. I believe there is so much we can say about speaking the right words at every turn of our lives irrespective of what the situation presents. Therefore, I really want to encourage you to get deeper into God’s word more than ever before. Jesus said it so beautifully, “The Spirit is the one who gives life! Human strength can do nothing. The words that I have spoken to you are from that life-giving Spirit.” Read John 6:63 (CEV). Beloved, let us stop speaking death and start speaking life.

I encourage you to look out for our next post, and be sure to give us your feedback. It is always encouraging to hear testimonies from people who have been blessed through our posts.

We write. You read. Be encouraged.

    1. Absolutely true Jane. Our words carry and can change the course of our lives. Only if we knew how powerful our words shape our future; we would exercise a lot more care in the things we give voice to.
