The word attribute can mean trait, characteristics or dimension. It can be referred to as a feature. In leadership, there are known leadership styles and every leader exhibits different leadership traits. And the expression of certain leadership traits puts the leader in a category, it could be transformational, transactional or laissez-faire leadership styles. In like manner, God is no different, in the sense that He exhibits traits or characteristics which defines His being. According to Tozer (2014), “attribute is not just merely about God’s characteristics or quality: rather, it is who and what God is.”
Listen to this, “We wonder why we don’t have faith; the answer is, faith is confidence in the character of God and if we don’t know what kind of God God is, we can’t have faith.” A. W. Tozer. The Westminster Shorter Catechism’s definition of God is merely an enumeration of His attributes: “God is a Spirit, infinite, eternal, and unchangeable in His being, wisdom, power, holiness, justice, goodness, and truth. “The Westminster Larger Catechism adds certain attributes to this description, such as “all-sufficient,” “incomprehensible,” “everywhere present” and “knowing all things.”
Subsequently, theologians who have studied and tried to understand God’s nature and characteristics have narrowed their research down to these three areas: God’s omnipotence, omniscience and omnipresence, and as you might have noticed I emboldened the word “Omni” which simply means “ALL.” I love this Bible verse, “I am the Alpha and the Omega [the Beginning and the End],” says the Lord God, “Who is [existing forever] and Who was [continually existing in the past] and Who is to come, the Almighty [the Omnipotent, the Ruler of all].” Read Revelations 1: 8(AMP). And I would also like to add God’s immutability.
God is Omnipotent – God is described as all-powerful, almighty and supreme. Luke 1:37 (AMP).
God is Omnipresent – God is described as being “present everywhere at the same time.” Proverbs 15:3 (AMP).
God is Omniscient – God is described as “all-knowing, all-wise, all-seeing.” Hebrews 4:13 (AMP).
God is immutable – God is described as “never ever changes.” He is the same yesterday, today and forevermore. Hebrews 13:8 (AMP).
You cant go wrong with being sold out to someone with these attributes won’t you agree with me?
We write. You read. Be encouraged.
Brilliant, absolutely brilliant.
