I ask myself, what does back to basics look like especially in our Churches today? I believe this is a crucial topical discussion for us to consider. I believe Back to Basics is about the “foundational principles of Christian living.” Listen to this beautiful quote, “No one ever graduates from Bible study until he meets its Author face to face.” Everett Harris. In other words, the author of the Bible is God, and for the rest of one’s life is to constantly be in tune on the right frequency listening to His counsel. We ought to keep studying God’s Word and aim to extract every nutrient that will help you and me develop well-defined muscles.
Researching and studying the scriptures as we all should do; I fixed my eyes on Acts 2:42-47 (AMPC) which says, 42 “And they steadfastly persevered, devoting themselves constantly to the instruction and fellowship of the apostles, to the breaking of bread [including the Lord’s Supper] and prayers. 43 And a sense of awe (reverential fear) came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were performed through the apostles (the special messengers). Back to basics according to Acts 2:42-43.
- Steadfastness (“not given to fluctuation or moving off course”) where the Word of God is concerned. Referring to our a daily active participation of earnestly seeking (hot pursuit) after God’s Word. God is steadfast with us, and in like manner, there should be reciprocity. The Lord has laid the foundation on the basis of His unfailing love and what I believe we can do is to “anchor our souls” on Him.
- Reverence (properly “taking hold of what God calls good”). Watch what the Bible says, “God saw everything that He had made, and behold, it was very good and He validated it completely.” Read Genesis 1:31 (TLB). Brothers and sisters, this is where reverence starts for you and me. When we look at God’s creation, it ought to bring us in awe of God.
Brothers and sisters, let us get back to basics, and begin to live a wholesome and fulfilled life. Remember, Jesus said, “I came so they can have real and eternal life, more and better life than they ever dreamed of.” Read John 10:10 (MSG). Back to basics is “Christ in you the hope of glory.”
