Speaking: a building block – Part 1

readyblock-brick-rightI believe, one of God’s gift to humanity is the gift of speaking. Are you aware what you say is a building block for the type of future you will have? Are you also aware of what you say is the thermostat which controls the direction of your life? Are you aware what you say shapes your thoughts and actions? Are you aware what you say dictate and stir the course of your life? These are very serious questions, and I am determined to help us see why it is critically important for you and me to speak words that build. Therefore, you can’t afford to be flimsy or flippant with words.

Your words are building blocks. It reminds me of the game Lego, where you have to put colourful bricks together. Therefore, I will posit, your words will and can add colour or dis-colour to your life, so be careful what you say. This is so important hence the Bible says, “Thou art snared with the words of thy mouth, thou art taken with the words of thy mouth.” Read Proverbs 6:2 (KJV). In other words beloved, you are held captive, trapped or imprisoned by your own words. Now watch this, no one is pursuing you but your own words! Again, what I am doing is simply reading the text, and is quite clear to you and me that if we speak words that are not consistent with the Word of God, then one is kept imprisoned.

Words are so important in our day to day interactions with people and with our heavenly Father. Scripture tells us “By faith [that is, with an inherent trust and enduring confidence in the power, wisdom and goodness of God] we understand that the worlds (universe, ages) were framed and created [formed, put in order, and equipped for their intended purpose] by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things which are visible.” Read Hebrews 11:3 (AMP). In other words beloved, with your mouth, you can create your world, after all, that is what God did, and as the Bible says, “…As He is, so are we in this world…” Read 1 John 4:17 (KJV).

Beloved, please hear my heart on this, your words are the foundation upon which you build everything. Therefore, the Bible says, “And now I commend you to God and to the Word of his grace, which is able to build you up and to give you the inheritance among all those who are sanctified.” Read Acts 20:32 (NLT). If you want to be built up, fortified, then go for the Word, because that is where the building block starts.

We write. You read. Be encouraged.
