Then Jesus spoke up and said, “My food is to be doing the will of Him who sent Me and bring it to completion.” Read John 4:34 (TPT). Watch this, Jesus is a servant to the one who sent Him – God. Watch this, “Jesus sat down, called the twelve disciples to come around Him, and said to them, “If anyone wants to be first, he must be content to be last and become a servant to all.” Read Mark 9:35 (TPT). Listen to this, “The highest honour in the Church is not government but service.” John Calvin. Here is my point, “I am a Christian first” takes on the role of a servant. The importance is not meant to be and should not be focused and centred on either of us, God takes the centre stage all the time.
Jesus Christ embodied this principle, such that when it came to the point of Him being arrested, they could hardly identify Him, and this shows me that Jesus was more like a regular person who was comfortable amongst His own people. The Scriptures says this, “Jesus, knowing full well what was about to happen, went out to the garden entrance to meet them. Stepping forward, He asked, “Who are you looking for?” “Jesus of Nazareth,” they replied. (Now Judas, the traitor, was among them.) He replied, “I am He.” And the moment Jesus spoke the words, “I am He,” the mob fell backwards to the ground! Read John 18:4-6 (TPT). This is hilarious because it sounds to me they were slain under the power of the Holy Ghost [laughter].
Jesus said this, “For even the Son of Man did not come expecting to be served by everyone, but to serve everyone, and to give His life as the ransom price in exchange for the salvation of many.” Read Mark 10:45 (TPT). So as a Christian first, here is our assignment – Servant of all!
Heavenly Father, thank You that I am a Christian first. You loved me with an everlasting love in spite of me, and for that Lord, I am truly grateful and it is an honour to continue to serve as a minister of the Gospel of Christ. Glory to God, Hallelujah.
And if you are not a Christian yet, and are wondering what must you do to be saved? Call out to God and ask Him to be the Lord and saviour of your life. Commit your life into His hands.
We write. You read. Be encouraged.
Thank God for a platform like Kolumns, reminding us of who we are in Christ.
Blessings

Thanks for this! It’s always good to be reminded that true service flows first out of being before the doing.
