Edom: Justice and Pride – Part 3a

When you continue to study the Book of Obadiah, you will notice “The Edomites were glad and thrilled to see Judah in trouble.” In other words, rejoicing at the expense of other peoples misfortune. What exactly did they do? See what the Bible says -First, they sided with “Foreign invaders” who carried off their wealth and cast lots to divide up Jerusalem.” Read Obadiah 1:12a.

• Second, the Edomites gloated [malicious satisfaction, gratification when their relatives were exiled]. In other words, they were displaced from their homes and turned into travellers. As believers in Christ, do we rejoice over someone else’s misfortune? Do we celebrate the downfall or failing of other people? The Lord rebuked the Edomites when He said, “You should not have rejoiced when the people of Judah suffered such misfortune. You should not have spoken arrogantly in that terrible time of trouble.” Read Isaiah 1:12b (NLT).
• Third, the Edomites helped plunder the land of Israel at the point where their brothers were suffering calamity, including seizing what was left of their wealth Read Obadiah 1:13 (NASB). Beloved, we are not speaking of a distant relative, we are talking about blood brothers.
• Fourth, as if the plundering and looting were not enough, the Edomites “stood at the crossroads” killing those [their fellow brethren] who tried to escape, including handing their brethren over to their enemies. Read  Obadiah 1:14 (NASB). Beloved, this is a betrayal against blood brothers.

The book of Obadiah is to an extent a reflection of what we see in our society today. Listen to this, “A brother will betray his brother unto death—even a father his child! Children will rise up against their parents and have them put to death.” Read Matthew 10:21 (TPT).

My Father in heaven, I pray, may we be people who are bold to stand with our fellow believers in Christ and to speak up against values which are anti – Christian in Christ Name.

En d’autres termes, ils ont été déplacés de chez eux et transformés en voyageurs. En tant que croyants en Christ, nous réjouissons-nous du malheur de quelqu’un d’autre? Célébrons-nous la chute ou l’échec d’autres personnes? Le Seigneur a réprimandé les Édomites quand Il a dit: «Vous n’auriez pas dû vous réjouir quand le peuple de Juda a subi un tel malheur. Vous n’auriez pas dû parler avec arrogance en cette terrible période d’ennuis. Lire Ésaïe 1:12b (NLT).
• Troisièmement, les Édomites ont aidé à piller la terre d’Israel au point où leurs frères souffraient de calamité, y compris la saisie de ce qui restait de leur richesse Lire Obadiah 1:13 (NASB). Bien-aimé, nous ne parlons pas d’un parent éloigné, nous parlons de frères de sang.
• Quatrièmement, comme si le pillage et le pillage ne suffisaient pas, les Édomites «se tenaient à la croisée des chemins» tuant ceux [leurs frères] qui tentaient de s’échapper, y compris en remettant leurs frères à leurs ennemis. Lire Obadiah 1:14 (NASB). Bien-aimé, c’est une trahison contre les frères de sang.

Le livre d’Obadiah est dans une certaine mesure le reflet de ce que nous voyons dans notre société d’aujourd’ hui. Écoutez ceci, “Un frère trahira son frère à mort, même un père de son enfant!Les enfants se lèveront contre leurs parents et les feront mettre à mort. Lire Matthieu 10:21 (TPT).

Mon Père céleste, je prie, que nous soyons des gens qui sont audacieux de nous tenir aux côtés de nos semblables croyants en Christ et de s’élever contre des valeurs qui sont anti – chrétiennes au Nom du Christ.
