Even now, says the LORD, “Turn and come to Me with all your heart [in genuine repentance], with fasting and weeping and mourning [until every barrier is removed and the broken fellowship is restored]; Rip your heart to pieces [in sorrow and contrition] and not your garments.” Now return [in repentance] to the Lord your God, for He is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger, abounding in lovingkindness [faithful to His covenant with His people]; and He relents [His sentence of] evil [when His people genuinely repent].

Reading this text, you can see the urgency, ‘Even now‘ for the call to repentance. Listen to this quote, “The stool of repentance and the foot of the cross are the favorite positions of instructed Christians” Charles Spurgeon. We can see from our theme text; God was giving an urgent instruction. Beloved, time is running out and no one knows when one’s life will end, hence, “Turn to me whilst there is still time.” Watch this, remember what the prophet Isaiah said to Hezekiah, “In those days Hezekiah became mortally ill. And Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, came to him and said to him, “This is what the LORD says: ‘Set your house in order, for you are going to die and not live.” Read Isaiah 38:1 (NASB). In a similar language, we are being told the same thing, to “Set our house in order” [pause and calmly think].
As believers in Christ, we seem to dance around the subject of repentance because we do not want people to be offended. Let me ask you this question, will you rather people go to hell? Of course not, we will say. However, whenever we refuse to witness the gospel of Christ, we are aiding and abetting in populating hell! Strong stuff, I know, and God will help us be about our Fathers business. Recall what the Bible says, “Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine.” Read 2 Timothy 4:2 (KJV).
To return to the Lord, the Scripture says, “Give me your hearts.” One commentary puts it like this, “With the entire force of your moral purpose.” I am reminded of what Christ says, “Jesus said unto him, thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.” Read Matthew 22:37 (KJV). Beloved, who has our heart? God or another? Watch this, an indication that one’s heart is away from God, could be by the kind of fruit it produces, hence, “You will know them by their fruits. Grapes are not gathered from thorn bushes, nor figs from thistles, are they? So every good tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. So then, you will know them by their fruits.” Read Matthew 7:16-20 (NASB).
How are we to give our hearts? “Come with fasting, weeping and mourning.” In other words, a sincere devotion with our hearts. Scripture says, “Anyone who wants to come to Him, must believe that God exists and He rewards those who sincerely seek Him.” Read Hebrews 11:6. I want to put it this way, a hot pursuit of God. Beloved, there is no room for us to be playing games, or being half dedicated; we must be all in [pause and calmly think].
Father in heaven, like David prayed, this is my prayer, “Create in me a clean heart, God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.” Read Psalm 51:10 (NASB).

En lisant ce texte, vous pouvez voir l’urgence, “Même maintenant” pour l’appel au repentir. Écoutez cette citation: “Le tabouret du repentir et le pied de croix sont les positions préférées des chrétiens instruits” Charles Spurgeon. Nous pouvons voir à partir de notre texte de thème; Dieu donnait une instruction urgente. Bien-aimés, le temps presse et personne ne sait quand sa vie se terminera, d’où: “Tournez-vous vers moi tant qu’il est encore temps.” Regardez ceci, souvenez-vous de ce que le prophète Ésaïe a dit à Ézéchias: “En ces jours-là, Ézéchias est tombé mortellement malade. Et Ésaïe le prophète, le fils d’Amoz, vint à lui et lui dit: “Voici ce que dit l’Éternel: ‘Mettez de l’ordre dans votre maison, car vous allez mourir et ne pas vivre. Lire Ésaïe 38:1 (NASB). Dans un langage similaire, on nous dit la même chose, de “mettre de l’ordre dans notre maison” [pause et réflexion calme].
En tant que croyants en Christ, nous semblons danser autour du sujet du repentir parce que nous ne voulons pas que les gens soient offensés. Permettez-moi de vous poser cette question, préférerez-vous que les gens aillent en enfer? Bien sûr, nous ne le dirons pas. Cependant, chaque fois que nous refusons de témoigner de l’Évangile du Christ, nous aidons et encourageons à peupler l’enfer! Des choses fortes, je le sais, et Dieu nous aidera à nous occuper des affaires de nos Pères. Rappelez-vous ce que dit la Bible: “Prêchez la parole; être instantané en saison, hors saison; réprimander, réprimander, exhorter avec toutes les longues souffrances et la doctrine.” Lire 2 Timothée 4:2 (KJV).
Pour revenir au Seigneur, l’Écriture dit: “Donnez-moi vos cœurs.” Un commentaire le dit ainsi: “Avec toute la force de votre but moral.” Cela me rappelle ce que le Christ dit: “Jésus lui a dit: Tu aimeras le Seigneur, ton Dieu, de tout ton cœur, de toute ton âme et de tout ton esprit.” Lire Matthieu 22:37 (KJV). Bien-aimés, qui a notre cœur ? Dieu ou un autre ? Regardez ceci, une indication que le cœur d’une personne est loin de Dieu, pourrait être par le genre de fruit qu’il produit, d’où: “Vous les connaîtrez par leurs fruits. Les raisins ne sont pas récoltés à partir d’arbustes épineux, ni de figues de chardons, n’est-ce pas? Ainsi, tout bon arbre porte de bons fruits, mais le mauvais arbre porte de mauvais fruits. Un bon arbre ne peut pas porter de mauvais fruits, pas plus qu’un mauvais arbre ne peut porter de bons fruits. Chaque arbre qui ne porte pas de bons fruits est coupé et jeté au feu. Alors, vous les connaîtrez par leurs fruits.” Lire Matthieu 7:16-20 (NASB).
Comment devons-nous donner notre cœur? “Venez avec le jeûne, les pleurs et le deuil.” En d’autres termes, une dévotion sincère avec nos cœurs. Les Écritures disent: “Qui conque veut venir à Lui doit croire que Dieu existe, et Il récompense ceux qui Le cherchent sincèrement.” Lire Hébreux 11:6. Je veux le dire de cette façon, une poursuite chaude de Dieu. Bien-aimés, il n’y a pas de place pour nous de jouer à des jeux ou d’être à moitié dévoués; nous devons être tous en [pause et penser calmement].
Père céleste, comme David l’a prié, voici ma prière à Toi: “Crée en moi un cœur pur, Dieu, et renouvelle un esprit inébranlable en moi.” Lire le Psaume 51:10 (NASB).
