Keep up with the word, and not with society – Part 5

the_wordLet me start off by saying this, it is absolutely impossible to win the race of life and thrive in society without the word of God. Let me, first of all, remind you what the Bible says, “Be energetic in your life of salvation, reverent and sensitive before God. That energy is God’s energy, an energy deep within you, God Himself willing and working at what will give Him the most pleasure.” Read Philippians 2:13 (MSG). Are you seeing this?

“I can’t do a solitary thing on my own: I listen, then I decide. You can trust my decision because I’m not out to get my own way but only to carry out orders. If I were simply speaking on my own account, it would be an empty, self-serving witness.” Read John 5:30 (MSG). The ability to do the word and to do right is to first listen to God and His word, then do and implement whatever He tells you to do. Recall Jesus’s first miracle, turning water into wine; His mother told the disciples, “do whatever He tells you to do.”

I am getting excited! In like manner, you and I can trust in our own decisions once we have followed or applied Jesus’s principle of listening and deciding to do. These two actions from Jesus were affirmative actions, actions which propelled Jesus in His ministry I would say, because, He went on to further say, “The food that keeps me going is that I do the will of the One who sent Me, finishing the work He started.” Read John 4:34 (MSG). Ladies and gentlemen, this can also be our testimony; listening and doing?

Trying to keep up with society can be a yoke and bondage because one will try to become something they were never in the first place designed to become. This is such rich text brothers and sisters, “Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with mewatch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.” Read Matthew 11:28 (MSG). Hey, do you know what I hear in this text? No shaking! No pressure!!.
