“Grow not offended with the minister if he comes home too close to you; remember that is his duty.” Charles Spurgeon. I recently came across an article which referred to some pastors as “celebrity preachers.” Quite frankly it is an afront and disrespect to refer to men or women of God as “celebrities.” And here is another one, “Preachers of LA.” A reality TV show; are you kidding me? These are some of the reasons why the world at large thinks the Church is an accommodation centre. The Bible counsels, “He must increase [in prominence], but I must decrease.” Read John 3:30 (AMP). “God promises no applause for self-promoters. But great reward awaits God-promoters—Max Lucado. “Good work! You did your job well.” (Matthew 25:23)
Watch this, celebrities always want the limelight, therefore, referring to Church leaders as celebrities in any form is actually demeaning the office. The Bible says, “Instead, He emptied Himself of His outward glory by reducing Himself to the form of a lowly servant. He became human! He humbled Himself and became vulnerable, choosing to be revealed as a man and was obedient. He was a perfect example, even in His death—a criminal’s death by crucifixion! Because of that obedience, God exalted Him and multiplied His greatness! He has now been given the greatest of all names!” Read Philippians 2:7-9 (TPT). Listen to this, the Church is to empty itself and “abstain from all appearance of evil.” Read 1 Thessalonians 5:22. Remember, you and I are the Church…
Hear my heart on this matter, Pastors or any Church leader does not require and should not seek the validation of or from anyone but God’s, and guess what, God said, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you [and approved of you as My chosen instrument], And before you were born I consecrated you [to Myself as My own]; I have appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” Read Jeremiah 1:5 (AMP). Can you see what I am trying to help us understand? Beloved, if you are upset by this statement, then maybe, that could be an indication of something you will need to work on and ask God to “enlighten the eyes of your heart” to His truth because what I am saying is the truth from God’s Word.
“For the sake of a dying, suffering world count the cost, pay the price and set the captives free.” John G. Lake. Ladies and gentlemen, the power of the Church is to save the lost.
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your mercy and grace. We truly need You, I need You. Let Your power reign down on us again for Your glory and honour in Christ Name.
We write. You read. Be encouraged.
Glory…Hallelujah.
