The word of the Lord came by Haggai the prophet saying, “Speak now to Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and to the remnant of the people saying, ‘Who is left among you who saw this temple in its former glory? And how do you see it now? Does it not seem to you like nothing in comparison? But, now take courage, [be resolute and strengthen oneself], Zerubbabel,’ declares the Lord, ‘take courage [be resolute and strengthen oneself], also, Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and all you people of the land take courage,'[be resolute and strengthen oneself], declares the Lord, ‘and work [to press forward and accomplish] for I am with you,’ [working together with you] declares the Lord of hosts.” Read Haggai 2:2-4 (NASB).
So here we see God set a challenge for these three groups of people [Governor of Judah, High Priest and Remnant of the people], and Haggai asked three questions, bearing in mind also that “The Remnant” were just brought into focus in chapter 2. Therefore, it can be said the remnants might have felt discouraged when they heard Haggai’s three questions listed below and that could have possibly hindered their enthusiasm to rebuild the temple. Also, the remnants might have been saying, these old people keep talking about how the temple was in its former glory, referencing the good old days; instead of them focusing on what is being done here and now. Listen to this, God said, “I am with you.” In other words giving the people encouragement to complete the building of the temple of God.
- Who is left among you who saw this temple in its former glory?;
- And how do you see it now?;
- Does it not seem to you like nothing in comparison?.
Watch this, everyone needs encouragement, and as the people of God, we should use our tongue in a manner that will not cause discouragement. The book of James says this, “The tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark.” Read James 3:5 (NIV). Listen to this also, “Therefore encourage one another and build up one another, just as you also are doing.” Read 1 Thessalonians 5:11 (NASB). And how do you encourage someone? Through consistent Words of Scripture.
Father in heaven, I thank You for Your Words of encouragement. Your words “Have I found and they have become to me the joy and rejoicing of my heart.” Lord, Jesus, I receive Your strength to continue in You in Christ Name.

Alors ici, nous voyons Dieu mettre un défi pour ces trois groupes de personnes [Gouverneur de Juda, Grand Prêtre et Reste du peuple], etHaggai a posé trois questions, en gardant à l’esprit aussi que “Le Reste” ont été mis en évidence dans le chapitre 2. Par conséquent, on peut dire que les restes auraient pu se sentir découragés quand ils ont entendu les trois questions de Haggai énumérées ci-dessous et qui aurait pu entraver leur enthousiasme pour reconstruire le temple. Aussi, les restes auraient pu dire, ces personnes âgées continuent à parler de la façon dont le temple était dans son ancienne gloire, faisant référence au bon vieux temps; au lieu de se concentrer sur ce qui se fait ici et maintenant. Écoutez cela, Dieu a dit: e suis avec vous.” En d’autres termes, donner au peuple l’encouragement pour terminer la construction du temple de Dieu.

- Et comment le voyez-vous maintenant?
- Ne vous semble-t-il pas ne rien aimer en comparaison?
Regardez cela, tout le monde a besoin d’encouragement, et en tant que peuple de Dieu, nous devrions utiliser notre langue d’une manière qui ne causera pas de découragement. Le livre de Jacques dit ceci, La langue est une petite partie du corps, mais il fait grand se vante. Considérez ce qu’une grande forêt est mis le feu par une petite étincelle. Lire James 3:5 (NIV). Écoutez cela aussi, Par conséquent, encourager les uns les autres et construire les uns les autres, tout comme vous le faites aussi.” Lire 1 Thessalonique 5:11 (NASB). Et comment encouragez-vous quelqu’un? Par des Paroles cohérentes de l’Écriture.
Père céleste, je vous remercie pour vos paroles d’encouragement. Vos paroles: Ai-je trouvé, et ils sont devenus pour moi la joie et la joie de mon cœur. Seigneur, Jésus, je reçois Ta force de continuer en Toi au Nom du Christ.
