First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, because your faith [your trust and confidence in His power, wisdom, and goodness] is being proclaimed in all the world. For God, whom I serve with my spirit by preaching the gospel of His Son, is my witness as to how continuously I mention you in my prayers; always pleading that somehow, by God’s will, I may now at last come to you. For I long to see you so that I may share with you some spiritual gift, to strengthen and establish you; that is, that we may be mutually encouraged and comforted by each other’s faith, both yours and mine. I do not want you to be unaware, brothers and sisters, that many times I have planned to come to you, (and have been prevented so far) so that I may have some fruit [of my labors] among you, even as I have among the rest of the Gentiles. I have a duty to perform and a debt to pay both to Greeks and to barbarians [the cultured and the uncultured], both to the wise and to the foolish. So, for my part, I am ready and eager to preach the gospel also to you who are in Rome.
Romans 1:8-15 (AMP)
Our theme text is more of a reflection on the person of Paul, and we can see this from his statements. The first one being:
- “First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you.” In other words, we clearly see Paul’s attitude and disposition towards God through Jesus Christ. Listen to this, “I thank my God always concerning you for the grace of God which was given you in Christ Jesus, that in everything you were enriched in Him, in all speech and all knowledge.” Read 1 Corinthians 1:4-5 (NASB). Beloved, Paul knew God and that gave him confidence to “Approach the throne room of grace with confidence…” Listen to this, “In whom we have boldness and access with confidence through our faith in Him.” Ephesians 3:12 (ESV). Paul understood he could not do anything without Christ, hence, Jesus says, “For apart from Me, you can do nothing.” John 15:5 (ESV). Beloved, have you desired to do something, yet you find yourself not being able to move forward? Could it just be an indication that one is being hindered? [pause and calmly think].
- Paul’s ministry of an intercessor. “For God, whom I serve in my spirit in the preaching of the gospel of His Son, is my witness as to how unceasingly I make mention of you, always in my prayers requesting if perhaps now, at last by the will of God, I will succeed in coming to you.”
- Paul’s proclivity to service. “Always in my prayers requesting if perhaps now, at last by the will of God, I will succeed in coming to you.” This reflects Paul’s absolute submission to the will of God. Fast forward to verse 14-15 “I am under obligation both to Greeks and to the uncultured, both to the wise and to the foolish. So, for my part, I am eager to preach the gospel to you also who are in Rome.” Beloved, for years, Paul desired to visit the Roman Christians, yet, the plan in his mind was hindered, but, he never gave up on this desire, whilst submitting to the will of God. Watch this, God sometimes uses hinderances to help refocus one, and in this context, the hinderance against Paul was God’s will to guide him. You are probably saying this can’t be so. Look at this, “For this reason I have often been prevented from coming to you” Romans 15:22. Like any good Bible student, the question is asked, “For this reason,” what does it mean? Romans 15:20, helps us answer what the reason is, “And in this way I aspired to preach the gospel, not where Christ was already known by name, so that I would not build on another person’s foundation.” Can you see this? Paul aspired to preach the gospel.
Watch this beloved, we see clearly from the texts, Paul had a selfless submission to the will of God. He had his plan in place, but God had a better plan for Paul. Therefore, “.Do not be anxious or worried about anything, but in everything [every circumstance and situation] by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, continue to make your [specific] requests known to God.” Philippians 4:6.
Lord, Jesus, help me to embrace the hinderances you have put in the way to direct and orchestrate the affairs of my life in Christ name.

Bien-aimé, avez-vous désiré faire quelque chose, mais vous vous retrouvez incapable d’aller de l’avant? Serait-ce simplement une indication que l’on est gêné? [faites une pause et réfléchissez calmement].
- Le ministère d’un intercesseur de Paul. “Car Dieu, que je sers dans mon esprit dans la prédication de l’Évangile de son Fils, est mon témoignage de la façon dont je ne cesse de vous mentionner, toujours dans mes prières en demandant si peut-être maintenant, enfin par la volonté de Dieu, je réussirai à venir à vous.”
- La propension de Paul au service. “Toujours dans mes prières demandant si peut-être maintenant, enfin par la volonté de Dieu, je réussirai à venir à vous.” Cela reflète la soumission absolue de Paul à la volonté de Dieu. Avance rapide jusqu’au verset 14-15 “Je suis soumis à la fois aux Grecs et aux incultes, à la fois aux sages et aux insensés. Donc, pour ma part, je suis impatient de prêcher l’Évangile à vous aussi qui êtes à Rome. Comme tout bon étudiant de la Bible, la question est posée: “Pour cette raison,” qu’est-ce que cela signifie ? Romains 15:20 nous aide à répondre à la question: “Et de cette façon, j’aspirais à prêcher l’Évangile, pas là où Christ était déjà connu par son nom, afin que je ne construise pas sur le fondement d’une autre personne.” Voyez-vous cela? Paul aspirait à prêcher l’Évangile.
Regardez ce bien-aimé, nous le voyons clairement dans les textes, Paul a eu une soumission désintéressée à la volonté de Dieu. Il avait son plan en place, mais Dieu avait un meilleur plan pour Paul. Par conséquent, “Ne vous inquiétez pas de quoi que ce soit, mais en tout [chaque circonstance et situation] par la prière et la requête avec action de grâce, continuez à faire connaître à Dieu vos demandes [spécifiques].” Philippiens 4:6.
Seigneur, Jésus, aide-moi à embrasser les obstacles que tu as mis sur le chemin pour diriger et orchestrer les affaires de ma vie au nom du Christ.
